Horses have fascinated mankind for centuries, but what is it, that attracts us emotionally so much to them? And, can that be explained at all?
Various „horsemaniacs” give us an insight into their personal story and answer this question together with their horses in their own unique way, like a pastor who brings fatally ill children together with horses.
Tenderness and beauty speak through stunning pictures and lead the viewer continuously through a true piece of conceptional filmart, which makes it hard to believe the entire film was made by a single person.
The filmmaker ANTONIA UMLAUF, Baroness von Lamatsch, was born in Munich and grew up internationally as an actor´s and filmmaker´s daughter with austrian origin. She wrote, directed, filmed and edited the entire film by herself, accompanied by her friend GABRIELE GUMPERT and 13 animals, including two horses of their own. They traveled one year in a 48 foot trailer and truck while the film was shot. The filmmaker´s professional backround and intellectual upbringing, brought out a breathtakingly inspiring film, even for N O N H O R S E A H O L I C S.

The film HORSES MY SOUL was first planned as a five minute magazine about a horsewhisperer, for Antonia and Gabi had just arrived in Austria and tried to get a job from the Austrian broadcasting, when the person charge said: "Make fourtyfive!".
They took their chance, but after five months of shooting about the horsewhisperer, they had to start all over again and found themselves in deep trouble..
The Making of this film was a journey far beyond the edges. The filmmaker Antonia Umlauf and her partner Gabriele Gumpert travelled two and a half years with two horses, three dogs, two cats, four chickens and two ducks, with a bathtub and the entire equipment in a foutryeight feet long self restored horsetruck and harnessed trailer.
They moved into five houses which needed renovating, trying to find a place to stay for the winter. Sometimes they took the gas out of the powergenerator into the car, so they could drive to the shootings. They fought an immense fight being dead broke, but having one thought in mind, to survive and to finish their first 45 minute film.
